Mountaineering Ireland Anti-Doping Statement

Mountaineering Ireland recognises the importance of promoting athletic integrity. Mountaineering Ireland wishes to keep our sport free of any substances or practices which would affect that integrity.

Why do we need Anti-Doping?

Doping and associated practices threaten the integrity of the sport and put the health of athletes at risk.

Anti-Doping Education

Under the 'Strict Liability' principle within the Anti-Doping regulations athletes are responsible for any substances in their body.
The Anti-Doping page on the Sport Ireland website provides a number of anti-doping educational resources for athletes to make informed decisions.

Who can be tested?

  • Any athlete competing in a Mountaineering Ireland climbing competition
  • Any athlete representing Mountaineering Ireland at a IFSC or UIAA climbing competition

The WADA Prohibited List

Under the 'Strict Liability' principle within the Anti-Doping regulations athletes are responsible for any substances in their body.
The WADA Prohibited List is the comprehensive list of banned substances.

Therapeutic Use Exemption

A Therapeutic Use Exemption permits an athlete to use a prohibited substance or method if the substance or method is medically required.
Athletes can only get a Therapeutic Use Exemption if there is no unfair advantage from taking the substance or using the method. Prior permission must be sought for a Therapeutic Use Exemption.
